Puli Pongal

Puli Pongal (a dish made with tamarind):

(Serves 3)


Tamarind – 1 small lime size

Rice Rava – 200 gms

mustard seeds – 1 Tesapoon

Black gram – 1 teaspoon

Asafoetida – 1 pinch

Gingely oil – 100ml

Turmeric powder  – 1 teaspoon

Salt to taste

How to make:

a. Add hot water to tamarind and extract its juice.

b. Add salt.

c. Season  all the ingredients other than rice rava & turmeric with oil and add it to tamarind juice.

d. Wash rice rava and add it to the mixture.

e. Add turmeric and pressure cook the mixture(2 to 3 whistles).

f.  Add some more oil and serve it hot.

g. Pappad is an ideal side dish.
